1) My new Sony DVD player gives me the choice of 48kHz/16 bit or 96kHz/24 bit settings. How do I know which one is correct? My amp. instructions don't show any info for that setting (Yamaha RX-V2095).

2) Also, should you use the DVD player Dolby Digital decoding or should you set it for PCM and use the decoder on the amp.?

Well with my old DVD player 96kHz is for the analog out and only for the analog. If you play a dvd at 96khz via digital coaxial or optical it will convert to 48 kHz.

So if you listen to cds in your dvd player you may want to set the receiver for analog mode. playing some stereo movies in analog by 96khz it may sound better than using the digital way.

I do notice though for some weird reason that cds playing digitally are louder than analog. But you get more effects using the analog for cds.

If any of this is wrong somebody will come along and correct it.
