Any Battlestar Galactica fans out there? If so, please sign this petition:

[Link: petitiononline.com]

This is a petition to get the series released widely on DVD. The complete series is being released on DVD in Region 4 in June. Details for that release are here:

But, currently, there are no plans to release it in any other region. Argh!

I'm also a bit peeved that Futurama is out only in Region 2. Makes my want to 'chip' my player... :-)

Dan I have a zone free macro disabled JVC progressive Scan DVP with a built in converter for different US-Euro electric current voltages. Cost $349 plus shipping it automatically switches to play disc as soon as close your drawer.

If no one's noticed, the R4 version for this year has been cancelled. Since there is a remastered version supposedly coming out in R1 and R2 (at least) in 2003, they decided to skip the lesser version in R4. R4 should get the remastered version next year, as well.

R4 BATTLESTAR GALACTICA DVD BOXSET
POSTPONED UNTIL MID-2003

Earlier this year Universal Pictures Video Australia announced the planned release of a Battlestar Galactica DVD Box Set for June 2002. This has now been postponed until Mid-2003.

Tim Smith, Senior Product Manager for Universal Pictures Video Australia explains: "After initially announcing the box set some months ago we never imagined the groundswell of support for this release not only from Australian fans, but also from fans from all over the world. We had received so much feedback from fans as to what they would like to see in the collection - as it stands today it simply does not do a release of this calibre the justice it deserves in order to be ready for its original planned release date".

"Many additional elements I had hoped to have ready for our release are still being researched at this very moment in the U.S. and simply would not be ready to make our planned release date. In addition to this, there are major sound and image enhancements being carried out to the original masters. Whilst our local digital masters were assessed and cleared for DVD authoring, it makes more sense to await for the extensive remastering to allow the very best quality that DVD can provide".

"In 2003 there will be a lot of activity surrounding the 25th Anniversary of Battlestar Galactica, including a planned new television mini-series. I believe the decision to postpone the release is the best we could make at this moment. I say to fans - you are being heard, just hold out a little longer - you'll not be disappointed."

From The Digital Bits:

Universal has announced the DVD release of Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Epic Series as a 6-disc box set for release on 10/21 (SRP $119.98). All 24 episodes of the series are being presented in the original full frame video (digitally remastered for superior quality) and in their original broadcast order, with audio available in the original 2.0 mono as well as newly remixed Dolby Digital 5.1. The set will include never-before-seen footage, along with new interviews with series creator Glen A. Larson and series stars' Richard Hatch, Terry Carter and Anne Lockhart.

As if that wasn't enough, Battlestar Galactica: The Original Feature Film is also being re-released on DVD the same day (SRP $19.98). It will also include a sneak preview of the new Sci-Fi mini-series retelling of the film's story. Sadly, it looks suspiciously like this will be the same non-anamorphic widescreen film transfer as before, but we've not yet been able to confirm this.

Well, that sucks. Apparently you're supposed to dedicate a shelf just to this one box?

I hear you can simply remove the excess head part of the box if you want. Haven't actually gotten a copy yet to know for sure, though.
