Dentist wishing to upgrade from simple looping videos of 15 years ago. What kind of costs are associated with Netflix in particular, for a professional setting? And would I assume correctly, for every individual streamer running Netflix, there would be a separate charge? Also wonder about YouTube. Thank you for your input.

Well as far as I know, there is no such thing as a Netflix commercial account. So if they want to be legal, they can not use Netflix.

Same with YouTube. There is a YouTube business account but that is for content creators, making their own content. Not showing other's videos.

Besides the usual suspects: DirecTV, Dish, and Comcast commercial accounts (which are expensive). You could also look at Atmosphere TV for business. Note: I have no experience with setting this up for customers.

I know it does not mean a lot, but I did speak with my Netflix representative in the Philippines 😀

She said it is OK in a professional office. She said they get calls that are similar, can it be used in a school or another educational setting, and they have no limitations or restrictions. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Is your rep willing to provide a written document to that effect, or is this something you're willing to risk?

I have mentioned it to the client twice, will be mentioning it again, and will have a written statement on my invoice.

What is your understanding? We know there are professional music services like Mood Music, SiriusXM for business, and others, are you aware of any on the video side?

Tom. I know about directv and commercial accounts; I don't know about Netflix or You tube. A quick google search indicates no.

I know that music licensing is not a dog I'd want to get into a fight with. Frankly, they don't lose if they come after someone. With music licensing, the owner/proprietor of the facility, not the installer, is the one they go after.

There is the legal discussion, and I cannot help with it in any way.

just a couple of thoughts on Netflix
1) If I am not mistaken there is "continue playing next episode" or something like that for TV shows and so you can get it to continue until the series is done or stopped (at the end of their day), but can you really set-t up to play the whole time the office is open or will someone need to manage it throughout the day?

2) is TV/film the best option for a waiting room? Maybe a nature documentary, cooking show might be OK, but will anyone appreciate watching just a few minutes in the middle of the film? will the content be age appropriate for all the people in the waiting room? what if the client does not watch that TV show they won't know what it is all about? What if they do watch it but they are behind and now they will see a spoiler?....

My dentist has Vizio TVs in each room and they support AirPlay and casting. He has separate wifi for each room. If you want to watch something while they are working he just has you connect to the WiFi for the room your in and then you can airplay or cast whatever you want from your phone onto the screen. If you don’t want to use your phone he has tablets that he can use to pick whatever.
