lol i cant keep track of what company split or merged anymore. I know that procontrol came from RTI because thats where i first saw it at CEDIA. [Link: rticorp.com]

It’s owned by RTI, but the product and programming is completely different. Sort of.

This is where logitech/harmony always kicks everyones @ss. I have never had to find/teach/learn/write anything.

As their database is more extensive than anyone. They had official working sonos integration before anyone.

I spoke with Pike yesterday - he is NO longer with the remote division of Logitech. He does not have a replacement contact and had no further information regarding the future of Harmony remotes.

That is not a good sign.

He did say they wouldn't shut down support, right? That's what he told me when we spoke.

Not only would it strand the industry, everyone who owns a Harmony remote would be SOL if they want to do an update or connect via the cloud, which would launch a crapstorm class action lawsuit and they wouldn't want that.

I went away from Harmony for a while. Adopted ProControl pretty much when they first came out. I very recently did a Harmony Pro2400 and I really like it. I do find that programming special functions is slower than doing it through the ProControl software but I didn’t have to do as much.

Also with ProControl the client has to pay for licenses to add devices that use an app. And if they upgrade that device they have to buy a new license. With Harmony you just download the app and your done.

I’m hoping Harmony sticks around.

From the link,

"In the quarter, the company saw 309% growth in PC webcams, 342% growth in tablet accessories, 218% growth in video-collaboration tools, 78% growth in gaming-related hardware, 40% growth in keyboard sales, and 38% growth in pointing devices, like mice. Audio product sales spiked 87%, with the only weak spot a 22% drop in sales of mobile speakers."

I have to think that by comparison, the other areas are a lot less demanding of company resources and support. Must be nice, to be able to sell products and never need to answer eight million questions from people who should have read the damn manual and asking about products from other companies.

It would seem that it's a worthy enough product to be purchased by a big player. It seems ripe for Google...

The database alone makes them valuable.

I have confirmed that YES the harmony product is being EOL'd. the backend and databases will be kept alive for future support (ala Squeezebox). New Stock will be available come February and replacement parts will be available for some time, but the product as a whole at this point is not being developed or built after Q1.
