When you have that kind of money, you can create demand by telling people (advertising) they can't live without a universal remote. Include voice control that also ties into Alexa or HeyGoogle and you can't imagine a world without those things.

At some point, there will be a consumer based software/hardware company

How would you define 'consumer based'?

Anything a consumer can purchase, program, and use without a pro. So Ring, Caseta, Harmony, Sonos, etc.

There will come a time where somebody will come out with a whole home automation system that will include hand held remote controls. If they took Harmony's database, they would have an instant leg up. What's the latest, Alexa Hunches? It's only a matter of time where home automation is only consumer based. We will all be forced to use "Homekit" because everyone is using it (using for an example). Doesn't mean our jobs go away. It just means how we do business shifts.

The only IR stuff left is old tech the new generation want's nothing to do with Receivers, disc players and cable boxes. You'd have better luck selling stock in Kodak.

At some point, there will be a consumer based software/hardware company that will create an "assistant" platform for everything in your home (including a remote control). Harmony has the control down and if they could integrate everything else, it would be a product you couldn't live without. Forcing everyone to run to the store. People are sheep and whoever can direct the flock will be the one who comes out ahead.

Honestly, Amazon should be the one who purchases Harmony. They have the selling platform and Alexa.

Interesting viewpoint, but my point still stands that it is a dwindling market, not an increasingly large market. Especially as cable boxes turn into Comcast apps, there will be no need for universal remotes, as the supplied remote, with voice built-in, is preferable to spending considerable cash on something redundant.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Imagine the young Kodak engineer proposing digital cameras to management as a martial arts movie where the novice approaches the grand master trying to take the stone. Kodak management would simply point out that they had maintained total control over the film market for eons and that this digital video thing is insignificant.

I'm ok with no control systems too. Two years ago I couldn't imagine why anyone would install systems without something like RTI or Procontrol..etc...In the last year I don't even think I installed one RTI system and did maybe 5 ProControl remotes. Everything Sonos, Ignite (Xfinity) and Samsung TV for Apple TV. So they have to learn two remotes. Everything else in the home has their native app that can't really be replicated. RTI has their new programming suite and I'm happy I won't have to waste my life away learning it.

Remember our denial years ago of "its all going wireless"...
With the short attention spans of today if you have to do more than plug it into the wall and fire up the app, you have lost them.

I had some enlargements made from negatives at a local shop in the mid-'90s and when I went back to have one repaired after it had raindrops on it (started as I was walking toward a framing shop), I saw piles of 5x7 prints on various tables. I asked about them and was told that another place had contracted them to make the prints because they were extremely busy. I knew the other place had moved toward digital and had been reading a lot of photography mags at the time, so I said that they should get into digital, to keep up with the times and until it really gets to the point where it would be equal to film's resolution, they could do both. Guess who folded only a couple of years later. It's too bad, too- they did great work.

IIRC, Pike said that even as well as Harmony has been doing, they amounted to less than 1% of Logitech's business last year.

Their digital photo patent portfolio saved them from going under.

lol, that article is nothing but click bait and fear mongering.

It was 100% accurate, and came to fruition. Apparently, you were wrong about this.
