Any know about a inexpensive black box for this. I realise I could use a preamp but was hoping for a more appropriate solution.

Thanks

Steve

An inexpensive way to do it would be to attenuate the audio level down of the other devices in the system. I have seen passive line level attenuators at one of the parts houses that will serve that purpose nicely.
Car stereo installers use these, I am told.

You do want to manipulate the audio signal level, I'm assuming.

Hi, I would be happy to help if you could provide me with just a little more information. 1. I assume you are trying to ramp the signal of an Analog line level output from the RCA receiver? 2. If thats the case what brand and model Surround Receiver are you using?

If you are going to pad the other sources (assuming they are all analog not digital) use the built in level control provided in the setup of the receiver. If thats not available then your only other option is to use a powered line amp. When I have to use a widget I have always used RDL (RadioDesignLab) products. You can try the STA-1 & PS-24A which will give you up to +20db gain per channel and its very low noise. You should be able to get this for around $100 www.rdlnet.com

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the replys. Attenuating the other sources is not an option because the tuner is an integral part of the receiver. From what I can tell there is no linelevel adjustment for the sources.

Its a Harmon Kardon 310 AVR. We did not sell or design the system. They called us because they wanted somebody local.

I will check out RDLnet.
