I have a new gen AppleTV and Mac Mini. I do Plex on the mini and the AppleTV is for Netflix HD streaming only. I want to add codesets for two "Apple Remotes" and then pair each with a separate device so that when I am in the Watch Mac Mini activity and I use the remote it's not also controlling my AppleTV, and vice versa. Until I got the Pronto (yesterday) I just used the one Apple remote that came with the AppleTV, and let it just do whatever to the Mostly it just navigates around and stuff, but sometimes it does more annoying or problematic things like play a song over Air Play.

I have tried pairing in the normal fashion with the assigned Menu and Next buttons but it does not pair. If I pair the AppleTV manually with the menu option, my real Apple Remote stops working with the AppleTV, but the both of the Apple devices on the Pronto still control it.

If I can get pairing figured out, does that eliminate the ability to use Remote Buddy? I'd like to set up more functionality in Plex later.

Is there a better way to do this without adding an external IR receiver to the Mini?

Thanks for any and all help I can get.

An unpaired Apple remote will emit IR codes which are recognized by all Apple devices (pairing ID #0).

A paired Apple remote will emit IR codes recognized only by the Apple device with which it is paired (pairing ID #1..#255).

So you should pair first, and then learn the IR codes emitted from the paired remote.
