Thanks for the link action! Read the press release. Good stuff. Made my mouth water. :-P

Make sure not to overlook the "What's New" section here at the site as well. Daniel has posted his own details on this.

Thanks! The press release explicitly lists 2-way RS232 support for specific hardware. For example, it states that "For high-end amplifiers, two-way communication (e.g. volume feedback) with Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, and Onkyo models is supported".

I assume that if I a device does support 2-way RS232, just because it isn't explicitly listed by Philips, that it can still be made to use 2-way RS232 with the Pronto TSU9600? In other words, just about any device that does provide a 2-way RS232 should work with the TSU9600? I have a Marantz S3 projector, a Velodyne SMS-1 subwoofer EQ, an Anthem pre/pro, and a Denon DVD-3900 DVD Player, all of which support 2-way RS232. I assume they ought to work fine w/ the TSU9600 (and hopefully the upcoming TSU9400).

I sure hope you're right, randman. The hardware clearly supports it so I suppose it will all depend on exactly what capabilities the scripting language provides. Until at least a manual appears, it's all just conjecture...

You'd probably have to write your own module for it, though (based on a similar component). Ideally I hope we can get a database of ready-to-go scripts in the file area here...

Any news if there will be some kind of SDK available?

Daniel,

That would be a "GREAT" idea.

This is great news!
They now say July for the ProntoEdit Pro update but with all that's coming, I don't mind waiting.

I spoke with the Pronto product manager at EHX a few months ago. His example was code he had written for two way control of winamp, so good scripting customization should be possible. The only downside was that he said that pushing graphics back to the Pronto would not be possible - you would only be able to reference graphics that were already in the library loaded onto the Pronto.

For all you non-believers out there.

I've said repeatedly that the team has been VERY busy and they've not abandoned updates for the 9600. This new platform opens up a whole new set of possibilities.

Adding scripting to the 9600 was no small feat.

I hope they implemented some other things from our wishlist. Such as timers, programmable jogwheel, browse functionality,...

This page from the Pronto web site is very interesting:

I'm even more excited about the release of the ProntoScript.
Does anyone know if a new firmware will be available also?

I've requested jogwheel programming ability as well but highly suspect we will not have this in the next firware release.

A 640x480 screen will not work that well for a Web Browser so I would not expect that as a first cut of ProntoScript.

Timers as you knew them in the past will likely never exist again.

Is this a rhetorical question? How would you expect to get a scripting engine on the remote WITHOUT changing the firmware?
