I have been trying out the new pronto and have been a little disappointed with the Escient communication. I noticed these hang ups:

1)I will pick out a song and as it is playing browse for another. When select a new song it will start to play and the screen will change but the info won’t come up at all or take 2-3 minutes.
2)When I select a song the page changes and the info appears but the elapse time is going double speed. Even though the correct song length is displayed it will keep speeding along till the song is over. If I skip to the next track problem solved.
As anyone else seen these issues and how is the connectivity for yours?

You did not provide enough info. I've seen this problem once or twice but NOT lately on the latest firmware. What Escient device? Are you running the latest firmware? What is your network configuration? Are you DHCP to a router from the TSU9600? Which router?

Also, another quick question. On the Songs view, how many Songs do you have? Is it 9999 where you really have over 10000 songs on your Escient. I seem to recall that the remote tries to store all 9999 songs in memory and definitely slows down the remote. One primary symptom is a long delay when you jump to a page in the Escient Device from say, the Home page. Sound familiar?

Remembering back, the cause of the double-speed is actually the remote processing a backlog of play events from the Escient which might be being flushed on a track change.

Great, Thanks Lyndel.
DVDM-300 running the latest software as well as the 9600 is up to date. The Fireball is set to static and the remote is set to DHCP. I'm running with the NetGear ProSafe line. Only 1752 songs (does it normally build at 30 a time). I will have to turn off/on the remote to get it back once in every use. Still having lots of issues and wanted to know if yours is solid or spotty? I'm still excited but unhappy with the performance. Right know I selected a song and it plays but the screen is missing all the info. :(

Yes, it builds 30 at a time. The Escient devices are really very slow. They only have about a 300MHz processor.

I personally don't use the TSU9600 against my DVDM-100. I have Fireball PC that is integrated with the DVDM-100 and allows me to view music on TV screen. On the same PC where Fireball is running, I have my own custom, personal Media player on which I implemented the Escient Protocol. As a result, I connect the 9600 only to my Media PC for Escient viewing. For test purposes, I sometimes use the Escient to verify that all my MP3 tags are valid (same # of titles from my Media Player as are displayed using Fireball PC on the Escient).

Regarding the DVDM-300, you did not mention which software version you were running. Is it the Escient Beta Stuff or 4.1.7.8? Also, why do you turn off the remote? Why not just Home, Menu, Page + all at the same time to do a reset. See shortcuts in Help file. Also, you will most likely want to do Backlight, Menu, Firm2 and clear out your diagnostic log. See if clearing the log helps. I presume you will have 100 entries in the log and that the time stamps of messages 1-100 will not be sequential. I'm very interested if that is the case. See the other post on TSU9600 Lockups.

:(

Blame the performance on Escient. My media player loads up 1731 titles in less than 3 seconds into the TSU9600. With regard to missing info, you should be able to reproduce this problem really easily by flipping back and forth between the Browser Page and the Player Page using tabs at top of display. I've reported an issue to Philips where they constantly send a Request Playing Info command when doing this. After a while, the remote may lockup. Use the 3-key Reset if this occurs

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that in the next 2 months, we will see another firmware update. I'm also really wanting to view my movies on the TSU9600 as well.

I have a similar issue where the remote displays the track time but the time bar always displays 0:00...even as the progress bar advances. I just got the new fireball FP-1. It's the one with the iPod dock. I'm running the latest software and firmware on both. Is this a similar issue or did I just add to the problem list ;)
May the pronto be with you

There is a known and already reported (to Philips) issue with the Song View where the total track duration changes when playing track changes or whenever you use the 4-way cursor up and down buttons or Firm1/Firm5 to change tracks. I've not seen the 0:00 issue as of yet but I've not tried the latest 4.2.3.4 firmware with the 9600.

9600 does not yet support movies or iradio views.

With regard to the DVDM-300, it has a built-in music server so you should see no issues with integration of the Music page on the 9600.

Hey Lyndel. You mention that your Media Player loads songs into the TSU9600 very quickly. Can I deduce from this that you don't use and Escient? If so: what are you using.

My own custom written media player that speaks the Escient protocol. You can find more info about this by searching this forum for threads where I've posted regarding "Escient".
