NICE WORK!!!

Can't wait to test it on my Dreambox 7020 !!!

I've got a 7025.
If it's done, you can use my script also to switch the channel of your Dreambox over WiFi. So you can not only see the stream over WiFi in an other room but also control your DM "through walls".

KEWL!!!!! The Dreambox FTA (Free-to-Air) satellite receiver has had some attention in the US - often as a way to "crack" some satellite TV providers. Highly praised as a top quality unit, but some knowledge required to get it working.

Your program makes me really want a 9400 (sigh).

@kevin82
due to it simply canptures the FBAS Video-Output of the Dreambox, you see everything on the remote you (would) see on your TV, so also the EPG.
(but I'm not sure if you can read it on the remote - didn't try it so far)

@Craig Henrikson
Also if the Dreambox is often a so called "geek box", it's a good working PVR out-of-the box.
You CAN do a lot with it (run as a websever, read RSS, directly burn DVDs, ...and what the hell else...) but you NEED NOT.
Installing an "emu" for watching payTV or PPV (with or without legal subscription smartcard) can be done in seconds directly through the box via the "plugin download" feature (if connected to the internet)

But best of all: it features "Multiboot". You can copy serveral firmware images to a CompactFlash Card and select which to boot.
If you do something wrong, the software crashes, or whatever, you can boot from the Box-Flash-Memory or an other image of the CF card whenever you want and it will be back running in Minutes just by the press of a button.
Even if the CF card crashes: just take it out and it will be booting from Flash.

btw: sorry, promised to work on my LiveTV feature over the weekend, but forgot my wife's birthday :-(
so: more to come the next days :)

Here it is! :-)
[Link: viso.at]

It's just a simple script (now) but it was a bit hard to get there, handling all the exeptions of connection losts, time outs, etc...

How to use:
1.) download and install "Active Webcam": [Link: downloads.pysoft.com]
2.) set up a camera (Webcam, videograbber, TV card, ... as source)
3.) in Broadcasting-Options just choose "http-server" as the Pronto cannot handle any type of "real" streaming video
4.) open the XCF and edit in "Settings" Page IP-Adress and Port according to the PC running Acive Webcam.
5.) Transfer to your Pronto and enjoy :-)

I hope you like it!
...any questions or suggestions? Let me know!

Hi Guys!

here is version 2.0
(I know, my version-numbers do big jumps, but that's my numbering style. Every final version gets a new x. number, all tests in between get .xx)

what changed?
1.) a bit prettier
2.) "Testimage" as long as there is no connection
3.) improoved timeout/noData workaround
and:
4.) WiFi control of your DreamBox (was only able to test it with my DM7025 running the Gemini image with Webinterface)
The IP of the Dreambox is hardcoded in the ProntoTV page Script in the "Dreambox" section as marked.
remote.connect('192.168.1.103', 80, 3000);

@poojoe
I am from Salzburg/Austria (near the border to Süd-Bayern)
btw: also having a long night? :-)

We are using my ProntoTV not only for TV but also for a "Video Babyphone" (wireless videocam connected to a second videograbber of the PC)
... great: because Active Webcam can handle (theoretically) an unlimited number of webcams/capture-cards/video-sources,...

My next/current project I'm working on is ProntoEPG, using the data from "TV-Movie Clickfinder" which is only 12 Euro/year and a free TVMovie->XML converter.

looks cool (the video, I don't have a remote to try it). It is an interesting idea, but you gave me a cool idea . Video is cool (especially when watching a different show while waiting for the ads to end), but a system that takes a snapshot on several channels might be interesting as well.

Hi wishmaster,

I have a dreambox 7020. Can you give me some pointers of how you grab the picture from the dreambox. I have installed the AWC-PYS software but I am not sure how to continue. What is the next step in connecting to the dreambox (I assume you are not using VLC).

Thanks for your help.

GREAT idea!
I just thought about a workaround that would do this job:
All you have to do is to connect the Video-Out of your
Graphics Card to the video grabber and: voila, you've
got a screen-grabber with webserver-jpg-capability:-)
(sure, native screen-capturing would be better but I don't
remember that I've seen a software doing this, ...but
if you find one, this would make it perfekt)

@darbyweb
what is "CCTV" ???

btw: planing to publish a working Pronto Project-file
/ Code this weekend.

Forgive my ignorance here, but just bear with me for a second. :)

I just found this device here...

[Link: gefen.com]

I was wondering if a device such as this could be used to enable native screen capturing?

I remember during xantech training many years ago, they showed us a way of using the composite video input on one of their touch screens to display the image from the Imerge Soundserver. A clear touchscreen overlay was then created over the top of this image to allow the user to "control" the imerge.

Im sure a similar technique could be used on the pronto using your TV module and a video grabber from the Imerge, but composite video could look a little crappy.

If this VGA-USB could be used, you could then effectively have a native 640x480 display of the imerge interface on your remote control. A simple touchscreen overlay could then be made and voila!

Or am i just being stupid? LOL

I think that it just is a VGA output, no capturing...
