Being a long time user of a TSU6000 then a TSU7000, I thought I knew what I was doing. Alas,

Installed Editor on my Vista machine, hooked up the 9400 with the USB cable, Vista and the 9400 show USB connection (9400 shows in device manager). Looks good so far.

Editor does not see the 9400. Tried to run the firmware updater, it either doesn't see the 9400, or troubleshooter will say firmware possibly corrupted. Followed the instructions to fix the firmware, got to the Application Firmware Download screen. At this point the updater should enable the REPAIR button, but it never happens.

Any help will be appreciated. At least tell me I didn't pay $500+ for a paperweight!! Newegg doesn't take returns.

Thanks.

newegg might not take returns but there is a 1 year warranty and perhaps the device is broken?

Just tried the editor on a XP Professional system, same thing. Windows see the 9400, 9400 sees the USB connection. The editor doesn't see the 9400. The top of the 9400 is always saying "connecting". What is that?? I have not attenpted to set up wi-fi.

Thanks.

That's because the Pronto, out of the box is in standalone mode. You need to edit the default configuration and then turn off networking. At this point you will need to download to your remote.

However, before you can do that, it is likely you have an HID device that needs to be disabled such as a wireless keyboard or mouse. Search this forum for +HID and you will likely get some hits.

Still working on it. I have now installed the editor on 5 different systems, four Vista and one XP Pro, 2 laptops and 3 desktops. ONE machine was willing to update firmware in the 9400, so that is done. ALL of the machines see the 9400, but the editor does not in any of them. I cannot believe this.

Appreciate all help that comes this way.

Did you install the editor with Admin Rights?

I had the same problem initially, and Lyndel's suggestion was on the money (as usual). Open your computer's device manager, open the Human Interface Devices tree, and disable the first "HID-compliant consumer control device" (I had 2), then see if the editor recognizes your Pronto. If not, try the next one. My problem was solved after disabling both.

The "Connecting" message is going to remain until you either turn off the wireless networking option, or configure your Pronto and network to talk to each other. For now, you probably just want to turn it off. To do so, you will have to push a configuration from the editor down to the remote with the wirless option turned off. You will find that option in the Wireless Settings tab of the System Properties page in the System object of the editor.

Final tip: I was able to get basic functionality with mine by importing my most recent Pronto NG PCF configuration and making some minor modifications.

Good Luck.

I finally got the editor to work using an older laptop loaded with XP. I will take your suggestions and try to get it working with my main desktop.

I did load the pcf from my TSU7000, and am doing the tweaking to get it 100%. The graphics look really good compared to the 7000.

I am a little dismayed about the learning capability. Why would they do away with the direct remote to remote method? I used that more than anything else, then simply uploaded into the editor. Not sure how to do it now. Any suggestions there??

I really appreciate the help.

Just learn from ProntoEditPro.

The reason you cannot learn directly is that it is not possible to upload a configuration from your Pronto to your PC.

Gene, once you figure out how to learn with the software, you won't find it to be that big of an inconvenience, especially, since you have to do most everything at the PC anyway.

To do this, go to the actions tab of the button property sheet and click the Add IR Code button. Select the Custome IR Code radio button and this will enable and display the Learn IR button. Place the two remoate facing each other as usual, click the Learn IR button and the Pronot will enter learning mode. Press the button on the other remote and release, and you will here the Pronto beep. The learned code is now in the software.

Sorry flyswatter, I jumped ahead one message too many. I'll follow your instruction. Thanks.

Thanks Peter. When I ask the next question and before throwing a book at me, please keep in mind that I am an old guy and getting a little slow.

Please define "learn from ProntoEditPro". The PDF manual talks about learning from other remotes, but how? What 'reads" them into the computer if the 9400 cannot upload?

Obviously I am missing something. Say for example I want to learn the MENU code from a Directv DVR remote, how do I get that into the computer, then to the 9400??

I answered this immediately above your post in anticipation that you would need this information. I believe it completely answers your question, but feel free to re-post if it doesn't.

I have 14(!) of these "HID-compliant consumer control" devices.
Wonder why it would be just the first one. I'll give it a try.
