Hi all,

I've searched this forum for the sort of problem I'm seeing (or not as the case may be!) and not found anything similar, so I'm gonna take the risk of being pointed to a post describing the same problem!!! ;-)

I have a DELL Axim w/PPC2002 and the un-registered version of PDAWin (only 'cos I want to be sure it works right - when I've got my CCF working, I'll straight down to Handango to buy it).

I also have a Pronto RU890 (the 1Mb B&W original).

I've had the Pronto for years now and have developed my system CCF just how I like it at the moment, albeit still in B&W.

The problem is after I have converted the RU890 CCF to a TSU2000, TSU6000 by various methods using PE4.0.5, loaded it up into the Axim, I get the white "Load CCF File" screen every time I try and load thr converted CCF. I've had success loading the same CCF into NetRemote (not much use to me as I need IR and haven't got a HTPC ... yet! ;-) )

I've also had success loading up the Pioneer PDP-503CMX CCF from this site but it's just a single device, but gives me confidence that PDAWin is working - plus I get a range of 8 feet if pointing absolutely directly at the Plasma's IR window.

Conversion methods used.
I've Exported the CCF from a RU890 to a TSU2000 and 6000 - PDAWin still fails to show my CCF, just the Load CCF screen.

Also, once PE4.0.5 was in TSU6000 mode, I've loaded up the original RU890 CCF and PE prompts me to convert the 4 level grey-scale to colours. So I do and then save the configuration as a TSU6000 CCF (Save As option doesn't give you a choice anyway)
...still no luck on PDAWin.

If someone has seen this problem and knows what causes it or can try converting my CCF (only 366Kb in RU890 format) it would be much appriciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Mr Anderson

Worth a try, try downloading Tonto, an alternative to Pronto Edit 4.05. it also converts formats.

Your problem 'MAY' be a conversion problem, but I am afrais is more likely to be a PDAWin problem. Some people have managed to get it working OK, but others.......many problems. As you have probably seen if you have looked through all the threads regarding PDA Win software. It can be got working, but is no where near as good as using the original Pronto.

But for PDA Win you should use a RU970/TSU600 mode.

PDA Win does not seem to support repeat keys, IE anything that emits a different sequence in the second burst pair sequence.

Hi npaisnel,

Thanks for the response - I've followed some of your threads and realise this forum is one of the "quiet ones!!!", so I posted a message in a general pronto forum on this site with a link to this thread in an attempt to get a response from some infrequent PDA/HPC forum readers!.

Well, in my frustration getting a cut down system CCF file working, I've used up all my 15 trial runs of PDAWin - now I have to pay $15 to continue trying with no guarantee that it take my configuration.

...which means loads of work recreating it from scratch - possibly to find that there is a limit PDAWin that my CCF oversteps.

So I downloaded Tonto and realised that I still could test the converted CCF until I pay for PDAWin to continue the trial -

...any one know how to reset the 15 try limit ? I had the registry editor on my PDA, and I'm NOT asking for a crack or serial number. I'm happy with the 3 minute reminder that I'm running the Demo version until I know for sure my CCF will work.

Cheers

Well, here is some info. I've deduced from spending the $15 and continuing the trial of PDAWin.

I used Tonto as npaisnel suggested - but it didn't actually fix the problem. I then went to the Properties page of the System in Tonto and PE and changed the Version string from "Mr A's" to blank (nothing, empty field, zip...). I also change the Home panel to not be hidden and the damn PDAWin accepted the system CCF file - wahoooo!

So, backtracking a bit, I've made the Home panel hidden again - and it makes no difference to PDAWin, it still show this panel - so, the conclusion is that the Version string I had entered when I used it on my Pronto (as it shows this info on a info. page!) causes PDAWin to not accept the system CCF file - doh!

So, the 15 try limit to the Demo version of PDAWin is a bit short - maybe it should be a week, a month, 45days just like almost any other shareware out there - may be it would give ppl more time to get something working on it before giving up and putting their PDA up for auction! ...plus you PDAWin developers may make a bit more money and have happier users.

Cheers

A slight correction, PE4.0.5 didn't work when changing the version string to nothing. ;-(

So it's a Conversion thing and the version string.

The only problem is that Tonto didn't keep all the non alpha-numeric font characters for direction, eject, teletext etc.

They show up in the editor, but not in PDAWin e.g. Character Set4 "<" character appears as "<" in Tonto but a empty scquare box in PDAWin (the type of box windows uses for unprintable charaters - open a .exe or binary data file in Wordpad and you'll see loads of them).

Is there a font pack for PPC2002 ?

So after further investigation into why files don't load in TV Remote, I'm completely confused.

I did a test.

On my Axim, I had been using the "Personal" folder under "My Documents" to put the CCFs in and managed to get one working by using Tonto's conversion menu.

I then created a folder under "My Documents" specifically to put my CCFs in.

Well, I copied the working CCF to this folder (actually on the Axim using Copy/Paste, not on the corresponding folder on my PC used by ActiveSync) and the same working file failed to load in PDAWin.

So, my question is WHY ? ...it's a folder damn it - are there restrictions with folder names ? Does PDAWin have path restrictions ?

Well it seems so!. So I changed the newly created folder name from "PDAWinCCFs" to "TVRemote" and the same file that had failed to load seemed to load OK.

So I renamed all the other files that had refused to load to make them shorter - this seemed to be the solution.

Here endth the mystery of loading files in PDAWin's TVRemote (and I thought long file names and paths went when Windows 9x/NT/200x/XP came out!!!) was TV Remote written on a DOS dev. environment ???, was it written in Pascal where strings were restricted to 255 characters (although I'm sure the path was definitely shorter the 255!!! ;-)

So I also went back to ProntoEdit to check if it was anything to do with my previous observation - nope, PE managed to convert my original RU890 CCF with it's version string as "Mr A's" to a TSU6000 CCF. It just seems that \path\filename.ccf was just too long!

Keep file names and paths short
I'm not sure what the absolute path is on the Axim (or any other PPC2002 PDA), but a CCF file can only be 23 characters long assuming if the path is "\My Device\My Documents\Personal\12345678901234567890123.ccf" (which by my calculations is 60 characters)

Cheers

Hi,
I don't know if this works:

I downloaded a software called prontoini.exe which enables you to have other font sizes (i.e 8)with PE.
Problem is you sometimes get the problem described above with the "not original" font sizes.
In the "readme" of this software it says:

...3) Automatic routine to enable all available
Pronto font sizes (note that icons are not
available for new sizes except for the
ProntoPro).

So if you are using prontoini.exe (can you use for example font size 8?) just change the size of the font to 10 and see if it works.

let me know if it worked!
