I've got a RU940 that died after I spilled a cup of tea on it so I decided to use a 5450 until I could get a replacement.

What I've done is convert the RU940 ccf to a TSU6000 ccf then upload it to the ipaq running pdawin.

And that's where the trouble starts. Some of the buttons work but many (especially for my Panasonic TV) don't. It doesn't seem to be a consistent problem either as the red, green, blue buttons don't work, but the yellow button does. Also, when I try to teach the buttons that doesn't work either. In fact, it's stranger than that. I can teach the yellow button (the one that already worked) but the others don't work after teaching despite the process appearing to work.

What the hell is going on?

I am afraid I do not think anyone on this forum knows. I have been trying to get answers to the same problem myself.
I have been having the same problems with a new ccf file, and learning IR codes from 2 remotes for the same device (grundig TV. One remote (the original) and the other ( Maxview 2 in1) both control the TV independantly, the 5450 with PDAWin learns commands from both, and they appear in the ccf file, almost but not quite identical. BUT the codes learned from the original grundig do not work from PDAWin while the codes learned from the 2in 1 unit do.

PDA Win does not seem to work with 5450, I think it is going to be a case of spend the cash and buy the new Pronto.

All very well but it states on the PDAwin site that PDAWin supports the 54 series of IPAQs. Also, a few people in this very forum have recommended it.

I actually think I read your thread when I was trying to find a solution to the problem and, as you say, knowone seems to know the answer. It's very frustrating, though. After all, PDAWin is not freeware. It should work with the hardware it claims to support.

Anyway, I'm going to persevere for a while and see if I can find a solution. I might even email PDAWin, but I'm not going to hold my breath for a reply as I understand they are mute.

And in the meantime, if anyone does find out what is going on I will be grateful if you could report your findings. I will do the same should I get any joy.

Joe,

I have been on the PC since 9 this morning, it is now 1615, and still no closer to a solution.

Do you have another type of learning remote One for all type? If you are in the UK and have a Sky box with the remote on the following link: [Link: getsky.co.uk]
You have a pre programmed remote that can control your TV.

If you can get access to one of these, and can get it to control your TV, try learning the codes into PDAWin and see if those codes work to control the TV.

If after all that, you do get codes that work, could you post the ccf file here, with original (non working) learned codes, and the corresponding learned codes.

If we can compare the two types, we maybe able to work a solution.
From the few codes I have looked at, it seems that the learned codes from the original are quite long codes (dirty) with repeats. while the working codes are much shorter/cleaner.

Haven't got access to another learning remote at the moment, but I might be able to borrow one from a mate in the next few weeks so I'll have a look then.

The problem is quite odd though. The codes I was using originally were those which worked with the pronto (I already had a pretty well developed ccf for the RU940 which I had to convert). Some of these worked fine. My cable box seemed to work, as did the TIVO - as far as I can remember without testing again. But the TV (a Panasonic TX32PB50) and my Arcam DV88 won't work either (that could be an RC5 problem and I haven't tested it properly yet - one problem at a time, eh?).

Basically, none of the codes I have tried work, either from the original ccf or learned on the 5450.

It looks like this is a serious problem. Though the methods you mention above are worth a try, I'm not sure how successfull they will be. I think there may be something else going on. I also think it is either a problem with PDAWin itself or with the way in which it works on the 5450.

Thanks for the ideas, though. As I say, I will be looking into them more closely when I can get hold of another learning remote.

The method has worked for me, on a Toshiba TV and an Grundig. The codes produced by Universal remotes, when learned in to PDAWin work, while the original codes learned in to it do not. The problem I am having is not being able to identify the working protocol to enable me to produce the complete set of codes.

Try your luck in the Pronto/Marantz forum.
It's a very active forum (123000 messages vs 2864 messages in this forum) and your problem is just as much an IR code / Hex problem.
There they know everything about code problems, creating clean codes etc...
Give it a shot. I have never remained without an answer in that forum.
Good luck!
