Hello All,

I bought a MX-990 and when I downloaded the file I built into the remote, the screen came back scrambled and I can't seem to fix it. It's black and white with cascading columns of junk with the left side of the screen more dominant with dark grey and the right side of the screen more dominant with light grey. Tried holding the main+ent buttons to do a hard reset, but doesn't respond. Any thoughts?

thanks as usual for the help.

Did you already remove the battery for 2 minutes and reinstall. Still scrambled screen?

Next = Use a default file from .ccp and load it to the remote. Does the remote respond? Is the screen still scrambled?
If not, could be your file you made is corrupted. If it's still scrambled, then go to the next step.

Last = Do a complete factory reset on the remote. 1) Pull the battery out. 2) Hold down "ON" and the "MUTE" buttons while reinserting the battery.

Hello Brad,

Tried all 3 of these. Still scrambled, and on the 3rd recommendation, it sounds like it rebooted, but the screen is still scrambled. might just be a defective remote?

If you did #3 and it still comes up scrambled, then it's toast. Because that completely resets the remote back to how it comes out of the box.

Hopefully it's still under warranty and you got it from an authorized dealer. Either that or you got it used for a very cheap price.
I see a couple of 990's on eBay right now for around $100-$150 that look in good condition.

Thx Brad. Could I have done something that scrambled it? I'm using a pretty old version of windows. Don't want to buy another one and have the same thing happen. Seemed like it loaded without issue. Thanks as usual for the help.

I don't think it's anything you did (unless you dropped the remote).
Restoring the remote from the built in ROM, would leave you with a remote like it was out of the box. So it seems to be a hardware issue.

Let me say however - I have seen files from ccp corrupt remotes and cause them to need to be factory reset. But I have never experienced a situation where the ccp file could brick the remote by screwing up the ROM. But the software does firmware updates to the remote as well, so technically it's possible.
