I recently pulled an MX-900 and an MX-880 out of storage, and I was dismayed to discover that they had both become extremely sticky on the back of the remotes. These remotes had been sitting in a box for many years, and I'm positive they weren't nearly this sticky the last time I used them. Therefore, I assume the rubbery material on the back must somehow naturally degrade over time.

After a quick Google search, I found a YouTube video that suggested using an acetone based nail polish remover. People in the comments seemed to be happy with the results, so I gave it a try. I have to say, I was very impressed with the results. It took a little elbow grease with a microfiber cloth, but all of the stickiness is now gone and the backs are nice and smooth. I highly recommend this technique.

I have been using Purple Power degreaser with a microfiber cloth and elbow grease. Wear latex gloves because the degreaser will remove all of the oil from your skin.

Just be careful which one you choose as pure Acetone from the hardware store melts the plastic.

Good point. I tested the stuff I used on an old broken remote first.
