As a DIY/End-user, would you be willing to pay for support from URC, if it was made available (as it's probably not in their business model at present)?

Yes same here, be it the price is reasonable. These remotes are not cheap to begin with, but I could be willing to pay a nominal amount to get the extra support and software needed from the start instead of having to deal with the extra troubles I have had.

Wakbroardr and ALK,
You both make valid points and seem very reasonable. I will try to keep some of those points in mind in the future. As a dealer I come here to try to help other dealers and DIYers like yourselves.
Actually, I am not anti DIYer. I know that there are many very intelligent and sharp DIYers who can program these remotes as well or better than me. What I am against is the dealer or company who will sell these remotes and not support customers after the sale.

Dave T. Fair enough - I think we can all agree on that. I've met both types of dealers, the good and the bad. And to be fair, I've also met the CIs that bend over backwards to fix things when customers try to "help" by rearranging files structures in a music server for instance. Andy

I am having the same problem but am working on a laptop (thus no other USB devices), have fresh batteries and have re-installed the MX-900 editor. anyone with a brilliant solution out there?

Using Window 7 32-bit (or 64-bt) I got the Unable to connect [SC-1] error. The fix for me was to unplug the USB wireless receiver (Logitech or Microsoft for keyboard and mouse) which interferes with communication between MX-900 software and the remote. Whenever I want to connect to my MX-900 I unplug the USB receiver and hookup a spare USB wired MS mouse. It might also be necessary to run the editor in administrator mode. Right mouse click "Run as Administrator."

I've been in the business for 20 years and have been selling URC for as long as they've been around. In my area, I've never heard of reputable dealers not supporting the product or their clients. I've had plenty of people that have said "I bought it through a reputable dealer...can you help me?" and the "reputable" dealer is Amazon. I'm calling shenanigans on these end-users that say they aren't getting the support from the dealers.
Just in case you are the 1 out of 100 people that can't get the company you bought the remote from to get your programming the way you want it...
1) Write down all desired button adds, page tweaks, etc. after you've spent some time with the remote
2) Give this list to the company you bought it from
It'll take them about 10 minutes on an MX900 to make any needed tweaks.

Just buy from a dealer who is willing to give you the software. There are many out there and some online dealers. You are correct it is an old thread and the policies I doubt are going to change.

And yes this is a old thread, but the problem still exists. Bruce is posting in the URC forums as well about how great harmony is. Why is he even a URC dealer? He sounds more like an end user. Or a trunk slammer. Hey Bruce, SELL MORE HARMONY. Its more your speed.

And yes this is a old thread, but the problem still exists. good. let harmony have them. i don't need to wait on hold for tech support for hours while customers call in asking which way a USB cable gets plugged in to their remotes.
