I have been a long time user of URC remotes (mx-500, mx-850, mx-900) and am quite comfortable with the standalone programming software. While, I have gotten the remotes to do everything I've needed, I am now in the midst of some system changes and wondering if I should start using CCP. Are there any advantages to going with the CCP software? Other than a unified interface, do I stand to gain any additional functionality on those two remotes (the 850 and the 900)?

Also, is the CCP software enabled for Live Updates as well?

Thanks.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe there is anything you can do with CCP that you can't do with the standalone editors. The main reason for switching is simply because URC appears to be phasing out the standalone editors. Since all future URC remotes will only be able to be programmed with CCP, you might as well learn how to use it sooner rather than later. :)

The CCP does not support the mx-850. It does support the mx-900. It does have live updates.

Honestly though, you are not really missing anything exciting. It is a different UI that does the same thing.

I wasn't too fond of changing to CCP at first. I have since become really happy with it. I especially like the "UNDO" button and the drag-n-drop (as opposed to "drag, drop, and replace").

Where on the URC site is the link to download CCP? All I can find is the MX-900 Editor v1.10.086 version which I've been using since 2006.

Complete Control Program (CCP) is only available for download to authorized dealers on URC's dealer-only site, URC Control Room. If you bought the remote from an authorized dealer, your dealer has the right (but not the obligation) to share a copy of the software with you, either on CD or by download from that dealer's own password-protected web site. Dealers do NOT have the right, in any circumstance, to share login information to URC Control Room with end users.

Best regards,
Dale

One thing I really like about the software is that it really let's you create a control system (with remotes revolving around a processor) - with the exception of the MX-3000. This is useful if you want to create a system of 2 or greater remotes in a household sharing the same rack equipment. Integratinging an MSC-400 gives you pretty good control. (agin with the exception of the 3000).

Here's what I don't like if I may be critical:

There is absolutely no ease of use in regard to graphic creation. Anyone who wants to integrate and manage their own graphics this is not a very good place ot do it. For one, there is no way other than the crazy snap to and coordinates function to allow you to align graphics and center them. There is no auto-resize of anything (not even backgrounds, and there is no way to easily replace icons (both pressed and unpressed state) in an easy way by dragging and droping. Last, there is no way to line objects up based on the alignment of another object which would be useful. You have to basically chart it out with XY coordinates.

To finish, lack of channel macro utility or a search and replace utility (Pronto, RTI, Nevo and many others have these functions).

However, it gets the job done for me and note this is friendly criticism. These are just some of the features about that bother me.

Thanks, I bought it from Surf Remote Control but it's not worth the bother to pester them. I haven't had any problems with the MX-900 Editor other than remembering to run in administrator mode to perform an unimpeded Live Update.
