As the title says, how can I update the OS and firmware of my MX-3000? (I am not talking about the Programming Editor, but the OS of the remote control itself.)

Also what are the latest version available?

Thanks!

Everything is updated by the software updates. If you have the latest software update and have it loaded on your remote than you should have the latest firmware.

I believe this to be true.

Thanks for your reply. That's also what I thought. However, I have 2 MX-3000 with different OS, programmed through the same MX-3000 Editor. (The Firmware however is the same.) It appears to me that the Progamming Editor is for the software only. Unless there is a hidden button I have not found yet....

The OS of the MX-3000 is not updated by the editor. The OS is embedded in the remote. The firmware is updated with the editor software which is really what is most important.

Windows CE runs applications, in this case only one application, the firmware. When firmware is updated it is like getting a new version of Word or Excel that supports new features. Think of the .rcc file created by the editor software as a word or excel file that is loaded by the application.

The version of the OS is of limited importance, but not a major concern in most cases.

Thanks Ericjb;
The remote with the newer OS allows to also adjust the contrast, not just the brightness level. This results is a crisper screen. I was hoping I could add this feature also to the one with the lightly older OS (just by a few days BTW).

I order to update the firmware.

1. upadte your MX3000 software.

2. Upload the 10-device pre-programmed mxf file onto the remote. This is the one when you select a new remote and you can select a ten device or black file.

3. When you load the pr-programmed 10 device file onto the remote, it will upgrade the firmware on the remote control.

4. Upload your old file to the remote, thenyou are finished.

Thanks Mike;
I tried it as you said (BTW my editor offers a 12 device template) but it did not upgrade. Maybe I already have the lasted FW version...

Uploading any file to the remote will upgrade the firmware it isn't necessary to use the pre-programmed 10 device file. All URC remotes will upgrade firmware if it needs to, during every download.

Cool. I was told I had to download the 12 device mxf into the remote then upload the customeres file. This will save me some time. What if I have an old file, then an update comes along. Can I just upload the same file to the remote and upadte the firmware?

Yes,

Live update your software, then re-load your same file. Firmware is seperate from the file you create. Every time you download a file to the remote it checks the firmware and downloads firmware if the remote has older (or newer) firmware than the editor.

In the case of the 700, 800, and 850 it downloads firmware every time you download a file regardless of the current version.

Did you ever get this upgraded/updated and are you able to change the contrast?

How old is the older remote? Remember that at some point in the past they did start putting a better screen in the 3000s. Some of the early ones had a screen that was noticeably different. This may not be due to the OS version allowing contrast control, but a different screen.

If you look under the battery there is a sticker with a build date that starts with something like 112505 which would be Nov 25, 2005. Check your build dates to see how much different they are.

So I take it that the contrast option is encoded in the OS software and there is NO way to get it on a slightly older remote?
