The IR4PS3 codes should work. All of these PS3 adapters start off with the base Sony DVD + PS2 extensions codeset so that they're compatible with the widest range of remotes. Sometimes there are differences in the "extended" functions that didn't exist originally, such as Power Off, however I believe both adapters mapped that to normal Sony Power Off.

No PSP is needed. You're thinking of something that once worked to force the PS3 to supply power over USB when off (for IR-to-USB converters), but no longer does anyways.
