I have ordered the Schmartstuff PS3IR-1000 IR to bluetooth converter for a client. This is my first time w/ the gadget.

What model/ code set do I designate from the database? I noticed there is no discrete power off under the Sony PS3 set but there is an ON and an OFF listed for the IR4PS3 piece.

What exactly do I need to do at this point? Do I still need a PSP to enable the remote power on?

Thanks Yall.

The IR4PS3 codes should work. All of these PS3 adapters start off with the base Sony DVD + PS2 extensions codeset so that they're compatible with the widest range of remotes. Sometimes there are differences in the "extended" functions that didn't exist originally, such as Power Off, however I believe both adapters mapped that to normal Sony Power Off.

No PSP is needed. You're thinking of something that once worked to force the PS3 to supply power over USB when off (for IR-to-USB converters), but no longer does anyways.

Thank so much guys. I failed to infer from the "Anyone interested" thread that there are new functions on the PS3 machine itself.

I'm also trying to setup the PS3IR-1000 with the MX-3000. The PS2 codes work. The IR4PS3 listed in the database do not work. PS3 codes listed in the database also do not work. Is there any reason the IR4PS3 codes may not work?

Ultimately I can teach the MX-3000 the missing code but I'd like to use the codes in the database if possible.

Yeah the IR4PS3 codes did not work for me either. Schmarts tech told me it only supports the codes in a chart that is available on the "support forum" section of their website. The document is called PS#IR1000 Pronto codes spreadsheet. (I would provide a link but you must register and log in. Sorry)

The chart shows that most of the codes came from standard Sony DVD player codes and a handful from PS2 (you can just drag and drop these from the IR navigator as needed.) For some reason the PS2 power off did not work for me ....had to paste it into a Pronto, then learn it to URC. I believe, however, that there is a way to put the Pronto hex straight into the URC editor.

I believe when URC added the IR4PS3 codes to the database, they used one of the custom codesets. Which is good for use with the IR4PS3, as it prevents any issues with Sony DVD players in a system. However that means those codes won't work for other PS3 adapters.

I do have a MXF file with configs for all PS3 adapters (and their slight differences) if anyone wants it.

I have a Harmony remote in the house so I just loaded the IR4PS3 codes into that remote and just taught the MX-3000 all the codes. However, even Harmony's database for the IR4PS3 does not have the Select, Start and PS Key codes in their list. And just like URC, the Playstation 3 codes listed in Harmony's database do not work either. I'm just short about 5-7 codes including the 3 important ones I just listed.

I think you can copy and paste the Pronto hex codes from that chart straight into the Universal browser of the MX3000. Maybe someone can chime in here and confirm this.

Sorry....either PS2 or standard Sony DVD, codeset 126. If I remember correctly I had to use codes from both to get everything.

well, I got all the commands to work EXCEPT the power ON button! ARRGHHHHH!!!

I used the PS2 set, and the discrete OFF button from the pronto codes, and everything works fine, but none of the ON buttons work! Once the unit powers down, the red light on the PS3IR module dissappears, and no matter what I do, it will not turn on unless I physically turn the PS3 ON. Once I do that, it takes a few presses of the remote for the PS3IR module to start responding.

frustrated to say the least!

Go to the SchmartStuff website and register in their forum. Once you have access, you'll see a number of files that have been created for URC remotes, including the MX-980.
