Hi gopronto,

I've just ordered some of those resistors from ebay.
Do I just install them in line on the ring cable, and
are they polarity sensitive?

Do you have any contacts at Philips to raise this issue
with them?

Surely we shouldn't have to mess about to this level to
get minijack cables working!

Cheers, Lee

The resistors are not polarity sensitive, and its the manufactures of the equipment who need to sort out there 0v and grounding ,or make the IR inputs opto isolated, so there is no conflict between 0V and Ground (earth) which are not the same.

The trouble is the "D' shell is connected to ground on the rs232 lead, which may not be the same DC level as pin 5 (0v), now at some point the ov on the IR lead gets connected to the Ground and that is when all the troubles start :)

The 100 ohm resister is to get around the DC offset , this does not always work but its worth a try as it is a very cheap solution..
