FWIW: It was determined early on that this remote had a lot of open source components (and some closed also). If you had access to all the source code it would be possible to do a lot with this remote. I believe there were some key pieces of closed source and kind of a lack of interest that kept it from getting hacked/opened. With the initial price tag, it just wasn't worth it.
