I'm familiar with TCP/IP (I do communications-related software development). I was just wondering what sort of features one would want to implement that uses TCP/IP, as far as controlling home theater equipment and HTPCs is concerned. Okay, so I can "ping" other devices, maybe access web servers, send commands to a PC? Other than my HTPC and APC UPS (which has a built-in Ethernet for ftp/http access), none of my home theater equipment use TCP/IP. TCP/IP is just a communications protocol, and I'm curious what features/capabilities could be built on top of it that is particularly relevant to a remote control.
