I'm familiar with TCP/IP (I do communications-related software development). I was just wondering what sort of features one would want to implement that uses TCP/IP, as far as controlling home theater equipment and HTPCs is concerned. Okay, so I can "ping" other devices, maybe access web servers, send commands to a PC? Other than my HTPC and APC UPS (which has a built-in Ethernet for ftp/http access), none of my home theater equipment use TCP/IP.
TCP/IP is just a communications protocol, and I'm curious what features/capabilities could be built on top of it that is particularly relevant to a remote control.

How about being able to access RS-232 AND any TCP device
on the Wifi network? Would that not be enough incentive
to buy the 9X00?

Not for most of the market that uses the remotes for home theather only.

You may want to consider the new 9400 as it has the same
screen resolution as the 7500. However, you would still
need to move things around to go from portrait to landscape.

If that´s true (resolution and portrait), we can guess, a 7500 w/ new gabinet, new battery (from the 9600), add RS232 and wifi and TCP.

By the way how is the 9600 battery? It has a cable too?

The 9400 is also portrait.

Daniel are you beta testing the 9400?

A TSU9600 is 11% bigger than a TSU7500. The screen has the same size so it means more plastic around. Can you tell the size of a 9400?

RSS is one application that TCP/IP might be good for. Yahoo Weather, for instance, has an RSS feed.

Hmmm.... So, I guess folks can write a program to get an RSS feed for the weather, and then use the remote to turn on their AC! Come to think of it, I've got a number of devices that actually use TCP/IP, including: a Windows Mediacenter PC, an APC UPS (w/ built in web server), 2 Panasonic web cams (also with built-in web servers), Playstation 3, Wii, 2 TiVos (also with web servers), etc. I suppose with a programming language and TCP/IP, there can be some interesting possibilites.... A web browser application would certainly be a nicety (assuming it is possible to develop one for the Pronto). That would allow me to monitor the web cams from the remote!! If that's the case, then that would be a good reason to get the higher resolution TSU9600 over the TSU9400; otherwise, the higher resolution of the TSU9600 won't be as big a deal, since buttons can only be made so small for finger-touch control use (I don't see the stylus as being desirable to use for controlling my home theater equipment - too much trouble to use the stylus).

I've found the accuracy of the Touch Screen on the 9600 to be way more accurate than that of the 7000. I know the 9400 will be a different top but the 9600 works well with the pad of a finger, even with smaller buttons. There are some cases on some screens I've designed that I do use a stylus but not normally. Such screens are level controls for my receiver, etc. Many buttons on the screen but not accessed that often.

Good to know 9600 is more accurate. How accurate I can point and press is another story... :-)

Yes, stylus use can be dangerous in that case :-) .
