Not even close, I'm afraid. It's because the laser is different for every type of rewritable discs and you haven't yet found a player that can read yours properly. Or possibly it's your recorder's fault, or the discs you buy.
Playing burned DVDs is a huge issue. Some players can't read certain brands of discs, neither can some recorders record on certain brands. Some players can't read discs from certain recorders. It is a big mess, and tricky to get right.
You can try videohelp.com for some lists of players and recorders and notes from people about what brand discs have worked for them.
