A coupler and/or amplifier will probally help you if you can move the IR543 to another plug and have it function correctly. The problem could be noise from the A/V equipment, I couldn't tell you. If the problem is being caused by noise, a amplifier may help but eliminating the noise would be the best route. I'd try the IR543 with the A/V equipment unpluged. If it works, I'd plug in each piece until it didn't work. This way you can track down the noisy device and put a filter on it. This may fix the whole thing for under $20.00. Of course, installing an amplified coupler would never be a bad idea!

As far as the Switchlinc, yes, this type would work on the fan although you could use a regular Switchlinc as long as you didn't dim it.
