I just installed 3 switchlincs and 1 leviton 6291(on-off no dimming) in a four gang box in my kitchen.I went to program the switchlincs with the IR543 and had no luck. I was able to program them with my palm pad(from the firecracker kit) with no problem. I have 4 other leviton x-10 pieces elsewhere in the house. With the pronto and IR543 I can control all of the leviton pieces, but none of the switchlincs. Help!! One side note ,one of the switchlincs is controlling a ceiling fan, and I get the humming sound. Can I use the soon to be released switchlinc flourescent as an on-off, and use the pull chain on the fan for speed control. The remote on-off function is more important to me as I use the fan in the high position most of the time. There are the few times that I need to slow the fan down, so I don't mind using the pull chain if that scenario works.

Warren,

I also got a SwitchLinc not too long ago, but I still haven't been able to program it through IR543 with Pronto, nor the Maxi Controller. You were able to program your SwitchLinc through PalmPad? That's something I haven't tried.

Sorry I can't help you here, but we're on the same boat.

For straters, is the fan humming or the switch? If the fan is humming, are trying to use the switch to slow the fan? You shouldn't use the dimming part of the switch for the fan. This may cause the fan to overheat. If you are using at 100% then you should be fine. Some hum in the fan may occur. I would put a relay type switch on it when they are available.

As far as the switch not responding, they are tricky that way. Switchlinc's have a better sensitivity but this causes them problems if your home has excess noise, you gotta git rid of it. Try unpluging noisy devices like computers, TV's and surge protectors then try the IR543. Also check out the "The Basics of X-10" that I posted this morning.

Good luck and keep me informed. We will get this solved.

Simon, as far as you go...Did you install a coupler/amplifier yet? If not, expect the problems to continue (hint, hint).

Have a great day everyone...Expect me answers to be delayed starting Wednesday, for a week. I will be out of the country and will be back here in a week. I sure you all will be happy that I give the posting a break...it's gonna be quiet without me!

If I move the ir543 to a different room(different circuit) all the switches work. In my den(where I need it) the ir543 only the leviton switches work. Will the amplifier coupler solve my problems? Is there IR to much IR noise in the den(all my AV equipment)? I really like the switchlincs, but I want to be able to control everything from my Pronto. One other question, Smartlinc came out with a flourescent switch, can I use that for on/off for my ceiling fan and be able to control the speed with the pull chain on the fan?

A coupler and/or amplifier will probally help you if you can move the IR543 to another plug and have it function correctly. The problem could be noise from the A/V equipment, I couldn't tell you. If the problem is being caused by noise, a amplifier may help but eliminating the noise would be the best route. I'd try the IR543 with the A/V equipment unpluged. If it works, I'd plug in each piece until it didn't work. This way you can track down the noisy device and put a filter on it. This may fix the whole thing for under $20.00. Of course, installing an amplified coupler would never be a bad idea!

As far as the Switchlinc, yes, this type would work on the fan although you could use a regular Switchlinc as long as you didn't dim it.
