I finally got with Dave and got a response. You can read it for yourself below. The information I have downloaded is not a single file but rather many .html files as well as items like codegen.exe etc. In total it is about 32 megs of files so it is not something that can be easily emailed around.
I do not care to go against Dave's wishes and post the info on my website since he was very kind and helpfull to me on a couple of projects.
Brad
Hi Dave and Dane,
I hope this finds you doing well. I was sorry to hear that you health has turned worse and does not allow you to maintain your website any longer. That brings me to my request. I have referenced your site a lot during some of my home automation projects and found the information invaluable as have others. When I saw the warning on it about your health and inability to answer questions and keep it updated I made a copy of the content for my own use. Since that time the site has been removed completely. Like myself it seems many others have come to rely on the information that was maintained on the site. Having said that I would like to ask for your permission to repost the information on my website. With your permission of course. I would post a warning to all the this info is no longer maintained and is for informational purposes only and give you full credit as the author. In addition I would remove all references to your contact information and list that you not be contacted reguarding any of this information.
What are your thoughts on this and is this acceptable?
Thanks Brad
Brad,
I prefer things as they are.
EDV has closed so there is no longer a US source for the hardware referenced on the pages.
My e-mail address is just too easy for people to find from other sources. After I announced I could not respond to email I was still getting 40-50 emails daily about the site - most generated from RemoteCentral.
Even with the site closed, I still see 10-12 emails every day that are about it. I really do not want to have to have to change my email address.
The RF2RF and IR2RF just proved to be far too difficult for most people to comprehend and I found myself spending many hours in answering questions and offering explanations.
I've had a severe spinal cord injury for many years and now have heart failure on top of that. The prognosis is not good and I need to move to a smaller place so I'll have less walking and less cleaning & maintenance. Doctor's appointments and dealing with all the above is taking most of my time.
I do have a couple of other projects I would like to complete and would rather be spending what time I can on them rather than dealing with the old web site.
