The region free is a different section of firmware, it is not affected by the official Denon updates. They can be obtained from Denon directly. Typically they FedEx it to you for free. I've gotten 2 updates this way since purchasing my 2900. Any recent purchases should only need 1 or zero updates, depending on the mfgr date.
