I think you should investigate Philips Pronto repair for this unit.

I had a similar thing happen in the same day with two Marantz RC5200s. They did not get stuck in the beep-beep loop, but I could not download or upload with either of them. With a real COM1 port. I have so far only sent in one for repair but it was a problem on the board.

I sent in a Philips TS1000 a couple of years ago and got a different, refurbed one, for something like $75.00. It was a pain to have to pay for it to be fixed, but this problem sounds like they need to handle it.
