I'll try the STB (when it comes) to see if it
accepts RC5. If it does then will any IR extender
system (via co-ax) do the job - or do I need the
Redeye.

If your STB accepts RC5, you don't need Red-Eye and any IR extender should work.

I'm confused as I thought Redeye was there to
translate RC5 into IRDA that it then fires into
the STB IR pick-up window.
