i = Info - tells you about the current programme (either while watching, or within the EPG). Useful in the EPG for identifying which episode is being repeated, brief summaries of films etc...

Help!

I have been following the thread regarding the 'Scientfic Atlanta STB and I am lost.

I have just had a second top box put in my bedroom (the 'Scientfic Atlanta 4000DVB) and I cannot get it to work with my Pronto 940 or with my 'Red Eye' and the ccf codes I use with the Red Eye when it is connected to my old Pace 1000N.

Unfortunately it has come with the very same remote control that came with the Pace 1000N and not the one made by Scientific Atlanta, which according the web pages for the Red Eye ([Link: redremote.co.uk]) could transmit both types of signals Irda and RC5.

Can anyone advise me what I can do?

Regards

Galen

AFAIK, no SA remotes are being issued, only the standard black or silver IRDA ones. Roumour has it that the SA boxes may understand a non-IRDA codeset (possibly not RC5, but similar), but no-one has discovered the complete set. some people have reported partial success using codes from other SA STBs.

I tried to read the whole thread but... well... urm... I gave up. I need to check my understanding:

I have a Marantz RC5200. Am I correct in saying that I need to download the codes from the Red-Eye site AND buy the Red-Eye adapter thingy? The combo will do the trick?

I have already downloaded the codes and discovered two sets: "Redeye Basic A" & "Redeye Basic B". What's the difference?

Cheers

They are 2 alternate code sets, to avoid clashes if you have a Philips DTX3670 DTT receiver, or to allow independent control of two STBs with two Red-Eyes. Use the "A" set if neither of these situations applies.

Hi,

Newbie here. Telewest (TV+ Broadband) is being fitted on Monday. I guess they will give me a Pace 4000T STB.

I am having this fitted in a remote AV/Comms cabinet and want to be able to control the STB from 3 rooms that are wired back to the remote cabinet with RG6.

I have read alot of the threads here and am confused.

Should I just get a IR extender system like a TRIAX-link extender kit? This assumes I can get the STB I am supplied with to accept non IRDA codes.

Alternatively, I don't think the redeye will help me because the STB will not be in a room where I will watch the TV. From what I read you need to point a Pronto or other remote at the redeye attached to the STB. I can't do this!

Can anyone suggest what to do?

If the STB accepts RC5 OK, it should work, you'd need an NTL blue remote or compatible to control it

If you can't get the STB to work with an RC5 remote, Red-Eye will allow you to use a Red-Eye compatible remote via an IR sender system. I don't understand why you think the STB location in a different room is of any relevance.. Red-Eye is not an IR sender, it simply allows you to control the STB using a remote codeset that will pass through a standard IR sender system.

Thanks Mike.

It's 12.52pm, and Telewest haven't called yet - I guess they have 8 minutes left if they aren't to be late ;-)

I'll try the STB (when it comes) to see if it accepts RC5. If it does then will any IR extender system (via co-ax) do the job - or do I need the Redeye.

I'm confused as I thought Redeye was there to translate RC5 into IRDA that it then fires into the STB IR pick-up window. If the STB they give me accepts RC5 won't an ordinary IR extender set-up do the trick?

Thanks.

If your STB accepts RC5, you don't need Red-Eye and any IR extender should work.

Mike,

Telewest completed the instal eventually. The STB they had in the van is a Pace Di1010T. That's not the one I thought I was getting (a 4000T). I am not sure if it accepts RC5 - I have not found much info on this box yet.

I will have to find out more on its spec before deciding what to do next.
