This is exactly what has happened every time i have tried to talk to people about their dogs. I wont bother anymore. Someone else will be the asshole who is complaining about their dog. In my neighborhood in Chicago it never went on for very long. Someone would poison the offending dog if left outside. Same with the viscous junk yard dogs with flimsy fences. The ones that will violently try and get at you as you pass the persons property. All they had to do was scare the wrong kid and the next day.. no more dog.

Now i live in the suburbs. The guy straight across from me leaves 1 dog in the house on the second floor with the window open. The damn thing barks 24 hours a day. I'm going to shoot a video of it when i get home to show you guys. Its ridiculous. They have the other dog outside, the husbands home all the time and he doesn't seem to mind that you can hear the dog blocks away barking all day.

The house behind us...1 to the left has 3 dogs in the yard 24 hours a day. They are never inside the house. They sit at the back door and bark all the time.

I really don't understand why/how someone would put up with that. If it were my dog and i couldn't get it to stop barking... it wouldn't be my dog anymore.

Seeing this thread made me laugh out loud just now. Shortly after making the post above i get a call from my sister informing me that shes dropping her dog off to live with me for a year.

Every problem with a dog you can think of... i have had with this mutt! Jumping on people, nipping people when he gets excited, darting across the lawn and around the block any chance he can get, trying to hump every dog he comes in contact with, barking when hes in his cage, barking when hes left outside a lone, barking when the wind blows.

It's been a long road and a couple of times i have been ready to call my sister and tell her to "come get the damn dog" but hes still here. I am allergic to all animals with fur and a million other things so i haven't had a dog since i was a little kid. Its crazy how easy it is to fall in love with them. Hes sitting at my feet asleep under my desk right now. Hes been here since i got home today. He will stay there until i go downstairs... where he will stay next to me until i get up to go do something else. When i get picked up at the airport hes in the back of the SUV shaking with excitement.

I knew the barking had to stop so i went down to a pet supply place to buy a bark collar. Lady at the register gave me the evil eye and said "hes barking because he needs to run. i dont mean a walk on a leash. he needs to get out somewhere so he can run for a while". She guilted me out of the store. That night i started taking him to open fields near me and i let him play for 30-120 minutes a day depending on how i feel and what my schedule is like.

He doesn't bark anymore. Hes super mellow most of the time. The jumping and nipping are almost worked out of his system. We hold our finger up and say "no" or "down" and he stops himself and sits down. When hes really excited he will continue to wiggle while sitting but eventually he calms down. Its pretty amazing to go thru this with him. Now we can leave him out of the cage at night, put him in the yard by himself and even leave him off the leash when going from the car to the house. I always make sure the door to the house is open and check for other dogs or people before letting him out of the car because i dont want to be one of those idiots saying "i cant believe he did that" when he snaps and kills the neighbors poodle :).

This is hilarious. I have had dogs for 11 years now. One of them barks all day long inside the house outside the house...while she sleeps :D
