I now doubly, even triply, feel your pain, especially since you don't have a display with you. Never do that again!

My setup, a DirecTV DVR and Apple TV feeding an RX-A880 feeding a 65" LG, gave me problems that the service place where Yamaha sends their stuff could not figure out.

Turned out that if the Apple TV were turned on less than about a minute before switching to it, the TV's deep color got turned on. This resulted in a completely confused outputting of video and audio from the Yamaha. To be more succinct:
Apple TV turned on a bit too early
TV's Deep color gets turned on
Yamaha's outputs get scrambled.
