No one here has said that you have to use or like THX. I don't know what Receiver or processor you are using, but many require that during the setup proceedure, you must individually select such things as Channel Level. If, for example, you set these parameters differently for each Surround mode, you certainly could make one mode sound better or worse than another, without even realizing it. This could easily cause your argument to be biased.
