I'll believe it when I see it! I recieved an e-mail this morning thanking me for my participation in the THX passport program at Cedia 2005. The release was supposed to shortley follow the Expo, and was then promised in the Spring after sending me a copy..."my 4th by the way" of the old disc. In 2004 they had the disc's at the expo, and when you turned in your completed passport they would hand you the disc. I still have my "receipt" for my demo II disc in my wallet. I'm interested to see the new stuff on the disc though and trully hope it arrives this fall as promised...
I long for a better world. One in which a chickens motives will not be questioned when mearly crossing the road.

Beam me up, Scotty. I to received the THX Demo Disc at Cedia Expo 2005 after jumping thru hoops to earn it. It's an interesting Disc with Demos, parts of various THX Movies, etc. We had to run all over the Expo Show to earn it. Now, they are offering a new THX Demo Disc at Denver Expo September. I will again do my best to get it. Actually, they ran out of the Discs at the Show, but true to their word, they mailed them out to us a few weeks later. Now they have a newer version that will be available at Cedia Expo 2007. I will do what I have to do to get it as well. Here is part of the email we received telling us about it.:

Stealth: I'm not saying that you have to have THX, but its a George Lucas certified system. He originally developed it for Movie Theatres. He had gone to various Theatres that were playing his movies. He was very disappointed in the Sound systems in those theatres. As in many Theatres, they just line up a ton of speakers down both side walls of the Theatres. Whether you like George Lucas or not, he is a stickler for getting the audio right. THX came up with a standard that all Theatres should adhere to. He controls speaker placement & balance, Power requirements for every chsnnel, etc. Whether you agree with him or not, his intentions are good. I'm all for standardization. I'm not sure how you determined that DD was better then THX. Sounds like you had something going on wrong there. Anyway, its a free country, and you do not have to have THX if you don't want to.

The standards for THX are good, and I'd say that THX certified equipment is good. But not all good equipment is THX certified. A lot of good receivers (eg Yamaha RX-V2700) aren't THX certified because the certification costs a lot of money.

because i switched the modes back and forth and prefered the sound field created by the dd modes over the thx modes. i'm not sure how else one would determine that.

something go wrong? as in....??

thanks for your permission. here i was thinking i had to listen to STRICTLY THX after reading this thread. ;-)

No one here has said that you have to use or like THX. I don't know what Receiver or processor you are using, but many require that during the setup proceedure, you must individually select such things as Channel Level. If, for example, you set these parameters differently for each Surround mode, you certainly could make one mode sound better or worse than another, without even realizing it. This could easily cause your argument to be biased.

all my gear is in my sig(pionner elite 82tsx). i read the manual and it didnt indicate any of the adjustments you mentioned were required. but i hear what you're saying, possibly if i made fine tuning adjustments to channel levels etc after switching to THX i may prefer it. i have left most of the adjustments to the auto calibration system.
adjustments-apparently i really like typing this word.
