What's new for Monday January 1, 2001...
(Return to the January 2001 news index...)
Contest conclusion!
Hey, look at that... it's 01/01/01. This is one of the few cases where it doesn't matter which position is the month, day or year! But what's really new around here is that December's amazing contest is now finished. All of the entries are in and the results have been tabulated. Marvel over the correct answers to those obscure function symbols (what were they thinking?) and see who won the Sony Glasstron, Samsung DVD, UCommand 616, Sony RM-AV2100, UCommand 515 or Weemote! Click here.

It's an overload of prizes!
For the new year, AVsmarts.com and Remote Central have brought together one doozey of a contest. We're combining January and February into a single massive prize giveaway - you could win one of eleven high-tech goodies, totalling over $2500! Just listen to this prize list: a Philips Pronto TSU2000 touchscreen remote, Monster Power HTS3500 power center, AudioSource System 100 home theater speaker system, Home Theater Master MX-1000 touchscreen remote, Sharp MD-SR60S portable MiniDisc recorder, Panasonic GigaRange Elite 2.4GHz cordless phone, Crisp Solutions UCommand 616 touchscreen remote, One For All Home Producer 8 RF remote control, Crisp Solutions UCommand 515 learning remote, a One For All URC-8600 preprogrammed remote or a Weemote kids' remote. Whew, that's quite the mouthful - but if you want to win you've got to enter!

Once again, nothing but the FAQ.
Okay, okay, so the Pronto/RC5000 FAQ has now been updated three times in the past month. I apologize to those folks who convert it to Adobe PDF format - but hey, when it needs updating, it needs updating! The new version 1.07i is a large update with numerous new questions and answers. As always, I appreciate your suggestions for additions to the FAQ. If you own a Pronto, RC5000 or are just checking them out, be sure to visit the Pronto forum - questions can't become "frequently asked" unless they're... well, asked!

The show of shows... it's CES!
As you may or may not know, the huge Consumer Electronics Show starts later this week in Las Vegas. I'll be leaving to attend the show in a couple days, so if you've got anything you'd like me to check out while there, please email me or post it in the Intermission forum.
