Sony RM-AV2100: Anyone browsing ETown this weekend may have seen a somewhat odd article regarding a Sony RM-AV2100 with built-in speaker. Needless to say, that product does not exist. What they picture is actually the Sony RM-VS7TV, a Japanese-model universal remote control that includes a wireless transmitter for audio reception right on the remote. You may have seen that some of Sony's televisions include a pair of wireless headphones? Well, this is the same idea, but instead of wearing a pair of headphones the remote has a speaker and volume control built-in (and, strangely enough, a headphone jack).

This is targeted to special needs users who may have difficulty hearing audio from far away, but don't necessarily want to wear headphones. The product will be introduced in the US as the RM-VS10TV and will be able to control a television, cable box, and possibly VCR. Pricing and availability are not yet available.

Turning back to the real RM-AV2100 (full review with photos here), Sony yesterday mentioned that it will be arriving from Japan during the last week of April, and should be in stores sometime after May 10th. Until then, a brand new shipment of RM-AV2000 remote controls will be available in many stores this week.

5:00PM: I see ETown has corrected the model number error.

DVD review: Yes, it's certainly been a while! But I've finally posted my review for Disney's animated movie, Tarzan. It's a fantastic movie on an almost perfect disc. I've still got a number of movies sitting here awaiting review, but I honestly haven't had much time to watch. Just maintaining this site is a full time job!

Remote codes: I've been reorganizing the "Programming Your Universal Remote" section of the site and have added a few new code sheets for Magnavox, Radio Shack, RCA and Sony remote control. It's a lot of work adding them, however I'd be interested in putting your code sheets online if you have them. Details for sending them to me are available on that page. Thanks in advance!

News updates: Remember, if you spot an interesting bit of remote control-related news and you don't see it mentioned here, email me with it! It's impossible to keep track of everything on the net, so I appreciate all news sent my way.
