What's new for Monday January 3, 2000...
(Return to the January 2000 news index...)
Y2K: Well, it would appear the new millennium came without too much computational fanfare. Indeed, the only thing noticeable around here was a brief stint with the year 100 on the forum system -- something you're going to be seeing a lot of around the Internet.

What this also means is that the largest electronics show in the world, CES 2000 held in Las Vegas, begins in a few short days. I'll be attending for the entire duration and will write up a large report when I get back. While I'm there I'll be checking out all the latest remotes and also asking some though questions of some companies -- such as "where's the discrete codes?"

Before I go, I'd be interested in any concerns you, the reader, have regarding home theater equipment and how it's controlled. Just send me your thoughts and, if I get a chance, I'll discuss them with the proper parties. Topic could be remote control designs, RF control, manufacturer-released CCF files, etc.

Contest: The December 1999 contest is over and I'll be announcing the winner tomorrow. I hope to also get a new one up on Tuesday, however if I am unable to it will not begin until next week when I return.

CCF files: New Pronto configurations abound. Complete systems are available from Andrea Whitlock, Guy Kuo, James Kenefick, Leigh Norton, Patrick J. Quairoli, Steve Hall and Thomas Frenz. Also available is a new memory-efficient 2000 Calendar by Cary Gerber.

DVD review: I had a chance this weekend to review Disney's Inspector Gadget DVD release. Good image, good sound...

The new server has been given a great workout the last two weeks and has proven itself reliable -- and a heck of a lot faster. With that in mind, Remote Central passed over the 1,000,000 page views per month mark in December and over 7,000,000 monthly hits total (hits include all files that make up a page). If you're an electronics retailer or manufacturer, Remote Central is the perfect place to advertise your product. For more information please click here.
