Strengths:The list is just way to long to list here. If you want the entire family to use your A/V system with the touch of one button, this is your remote.
Weaknesses:Some factory settings need to be turned off for quicker operation.
Review:Ok, I was pretty harsh on the software for this remote in my previous review. Marantz has since fixed that and so far, all problems have been taken care of with the newer versions.

***Make sure you have the latest firmware for the best functionality.

Strengths:This remote has plenty of memory, RF+IR fully customable
Weaknesses:A large number of these have been sold with faulty batties, long down loading time.
Review:The rc5400 is a great remote. You can programe every room of the house with it. It is much more stable than the previous moddle that is well worth the slow down loading time.

Strengths:Great graphics, more real estate to work with, can customize every inch of the screen.
Weaknesses:Animation...must be turned off, otherwise it changes screens slow. Software does not allow you to move the screens around while you are working, it locks them into a set position until you close another screen.
Review:The RC5200 wasn't broke. I'm not sure why they tried to fix it. They really missed the boat on this one.

The remote itself is great, but you can't do much with it without the crappy software needed to program it. As an installer, waiting 10 minutes for an upload or download is unacceptable. Firmware updates take 30 minutes (and these are on brand new computers).

Hopefully the software will be changed soon and then this remote will be one of the best available, as the RC5200 was.

Strengths:Pick up sensor
Weaknesses:Download and upload times are incredibly long. Slow page switching compared to 5200.
Review:This remote sucks. It definately isn't as good as the 5200. Switching between pages seems to take longer than doing so with it's predecessor. Just when you think they had a good product(5200) they decide to go the wrong direction. Upload and download times can be up to 5 minutes each way. Being a professional home theater installer I can't afford to sit there and wait for ten minutes just to add a button or change something in my programming. I recommend not wasting your money on this peice!!!! Whoopy do it has a pickup sensor. Maybe marantz should concentrate on making a remote that actually works.

Strengths:Animation and new display are great! New page navigation tabs are a plus as well as the "movement ON " feature that turns the lcd display on when it senses movement.
Weaknesses:IR capture seems to have problems when using software for computer link. USB is definitely NOT faster than old serial port connection and downloading or uploading takes forever and that is only if it does not dump out in the process.
Review:Over all I like the new remote. The screen and animation make it well worth a step up. It seems to hold more information and have quicker access to pages upon demand. However being a programmer of these does have its drawbacks on time and consistency of downloads and uploads. The software is easy to understand and only slightly clumsy to use it is just the transfer that is the major downfall and that is my main complaint. Other than that it operates amazingly well and is so much easier to read in light and dark situations.
