No complaints about programming or software. Weaknesses: Touch sensitivity below satisfactory - almost enough to return the product to the shop! I get around it by using the hard buttons more and hope it is improved on the 5400. High frequency noise audible when backlight is on. Review: Although I have read a lot about programmable remotes, I have not used other models, so my review is not comparative but rather just my impressions of this remote alone. Weaknesses: Touch Screen Setup still crashes occasionally when learning IR codes. Not as one hand friendly as the original Pronto. Limited code database. CCF tools doesn't work with RC5200 CCF files. Review: For a long time I've thought that the only real weakness of the original Pronto was the lack of a menu navigation pad. With this remote Marantz has fixed the one real glaring deficiency of the original Pronto/RC5000. Combined with the larger screen area most devices in my CCF went to one or two panels and it was much easier to provide all of the primary operating keys on a single panel. This makes the remote much easier to operate than the originals. Overall, this remote represents a much more substantial improvement over the original Pronto than might be expected from looking at the spec sheet. When I saw the original Pronto way back when I knew that this was a must have product. I have not been disappointed. Quality: Features: Value:

Review 1 made on Thursday March 14, 2002 at 1:00 AM. Strengths: Larger display screen. Sensitive (but not too sensitive) touch screen overlay. Hard navigation buttons. Nice tactile 'click' feel to hard buttons. Slightly more ergonomic design. Better charging capability. Built-in RF capability (needs seperate RF receiver). Weaknesses: Backlight does not come on automatically. Home button isn't programmable. Learning IR receiver is on top, making for an awkward learning process. Review: The hard navigation buttons, as well as the hard "home" button, is a godsend. This is a remarkable improvement over the already awesome RC5000/TSU2000 remotes. The built-in RF is also quite cool, although there is a problem with executing macros in device pages. Nonetheless, this is, in my opinion, THE premier touch screen remote under $1000. I have programmed just about every type of remote control available on the market, and this is the one I use at home. I have all my CD's listed (with cover art) using multiple categories and filters, as well as every TV channel icon listed using multiple categories and filters and have used only half of the available memory!!! I love this thing. Don't get me wrong, there are problems, but they are easily outweighed by the positives. Wonder why Philips couldn't figure this one out?
