I have a new house and need a RF remote solution. I have all of the wiring returning to a centralized A/V closet (including 2 rooms wired for HD and 5.1 sound, 7 rooms for home audio and 5 rooms with RG59).
I want 2-3 remotes for the house.
They will control:
a home audio system (not purchased yet) with 7 different rooms/speakers wired
2 HDTVs (not purchased yet)
(at least one HDTV will be hooked to a home theater reciever(not purchsed yet))
1 13" LCD in kitchen
2 RCN HD/DVRs
DVD/VCR combo (not purchased yet)
also planning a SlingBox pro (not purchased yet)

Basically, i'm starting from scratch. I need multiple remotes to control my whole A/V rack.

Is there a system that has some of these functions built-in?

BTW: any suggestions you might have on the rest of the equipment would be appriciated.

thanks

MX-850, MX-900, or MX-950 from URC?

A price range helps...these are all RF remotes. A database of many codes, easy to program, and fully learnable and customizable with a non-touchscreen LCD.

Where in Chicago are you located? There are major RF issues in certain locations in this city. Are you planning on programming the controls yourself?

I'm in Lakeview, and yes I plan to do it all myself. Is it hard to program?

Depending on the system. I will let you know that Lakeview is a area with RF Problems. It doesn’t mean that it won't work it MIGHT be spotty in areas. Most of the areas in the city I have found have RF interference. Again, what is your price
range? What type of distributed audio system are you looking for? A lot of these systems need to be programmed by a pro and if you are not certified to sell the products you are not going to be able to get the software.
Did you do the wiring yourself? Sometimes it’s better to use a keypad system for the distributed audio. It’s hard-wired so you won't have a interference. A big system like the one you want takes a lot of planning to make sure that all of the correct products are installed and to make it work correctly.

Need more info to help you out.
What’s the budget?
Did you wire the house yourself?
Do you know exactly how you want the system to work?
What sources (ie. Ipod, CD, DVD, etc..) do you want to distribute around the house?
Do you want feedback on the remote control?

Sail, you reaaaally should hook up with a local integrator like sdzd and pay him for a consultation. It could save you hundredss of hours and scads of money. You can still do it yourself for the most part, but you sound like you have a lot on your plate and a little bit of guidance can go a long way towards making this a successful project.
