The title basically sums it up, I just want something that will work behind a wooden door, so it needs to send the signal via RF, then convert it back to IR. I don't need too many bells and whistles so I'm hoping it will be on the cheaper side... anything less than $50 do this?

Nope. You're going to have to spend a couple hundred.

But you could try IR extenders with an IR remote.

Get one of the following URC remotes, urc100 or Rf10, about $50 on-line. Instead opting for the mrf100 basestation which is another $50, get a cheap IR extender or even used. The URC remote will communicate directly with IR extender.

IR extenders like these:

The last UEI made RF remote sold at RS was the 15-2117, its been discontinued for over two years and hasn't been replaced. Currently the only UEI Rf remotes at all in the marketplace is the urc-9910 and 9964. Terrible RF performance.

Is the URC-9910 RF really that bad? I'm just going to be using it from about 10-15 feet away. It seems like it would be perfect and is the amount I'd like to spend.

I have owned UEI RF remotes for over ten years. The rf basestation performance stunk so bad I had to abandon the basestation for the IR extenders in my first post. Watch out when a computer is near by, they are dead to all signals.

Maybe the newer basestation included with 9964 is better, sure is much smaller:

this is my collection of UEI basestations:
