A friend of mine introduced me to logitech's programmable remotes and I thought they were very impressive, except for the battery life. He said his lasted about a week without being recharged. That's really not acceptable to me. I have been using the same batteries in my TV's remote for 4 years. Any programmable remote must have a minimum battery life of 6 months to a year for it to be of any use to me. I really just want to have a button for TV, which will turn on the TV and DVD system and use the DVD systems speakers, and a button for DVDs which would do pretty much what you would expect. So what are my options here? I don't need fancy LCD displays or 107 buttons.

Thanks for your help.

Most remotes with a LCD Screen and backlighing have a much shorter battery Life. What your friend probally is saying is that he did not place the remote into its Charging Cradle for a week. a good portion of universal remotes these days have charging station for you to place the remote into. Also You can take a look at Universal MX-850 This remote take AAA batterys and they have a very good battery life.

what remote does he have? if it is the 880 or 890 then all you need to do is place it on the charger every so often. You don't remove or change batteries.

as for a remote with no screen. try the one for all forum on this site.

Well I don't even need an LCD screen. Just want something pretty basic.

My friend had one of the higher end logitech's with a color LCD screen. He usually left it in the charging cradle, but I think that kind of defeats the purpose so I asked him how long it would last without recharging.

that is why I said look at [Link: remotecentral.com]

the point is that when you don't need the remote (go to bed, go to work....) you can put it on the cradle to charge. So if it lasts several days then that is enough. What I found (with my Pronto) is that it eventually gets part of the habit and no more lost remotes.
