I have had a couple Pronto remotes, and currently have a MX-700, which I have had for 3 years. It worked well for a few years, but now it is starting to double send commands. For example, when you press the channel button it advances two channels. When you try to move to a letter for programming TIVO, it skips to the second letter.

This remote has been used in the living room only, controlling 50" Panasonic, Denon receiver, Sony DVP, HD-TIVO remote. Since I also have a 42" Panasonic in the bedroom, sometimes using the DirecTV remote in there also changes the TV in the living room.

Do I need a new remote, probably not, but the MX-700 double advancing is irritating. Is the MX-850 with the MRF250 more than I need? I am looking for something relatively easy to program, yet provides flexibility for programming different inputs, etc. I thought if I stayed with an MX that I could use my same programming files.

Certainly read a lot about the Harmony remotes.

No, it's not at all overkill. If indeed it is a problem with the MX-700, you could just upload the program to the MX-850 from the 700 editor, and if you want RF download it again into the 850 editor and add the RF. You don't need the basestation if you don't want RF.

It may be a problem with the programming, however.

I'd stick with the URC over Harmony. Harmonies don't offer the same level of programming...you basically go to a website and select your devices, everything else it does for you.

If you're talking about the directional thumbpad, the MX-850 would most likely solve that issue. The center button is separated from the rest of the directional buttons, making it very difficult to "slip".

As OTAHD mentioned, you can also use the same program you already have on your MX-700, if you are comfortable with the way it is working.

If you would like a free consultation, you are welcome to call.

Thank you,
