This is what I'll need to accomplish with the new remote:

1. Turn on tv, fios box, sound amplifier
2. One click switch to a video input of connected laptop(online television), would also like to control the laptop online guide with this remote if possible, the guide is something like fios tv guide, click up, down, left, right and select/enter to go to channel
3. And I also have a dvd player, which of course any one of these smart universal remotes will be able to identify

If anyone have any suggestions please let me know, I have absolutely no idea which one to go with. Thanks in advance.

Mark, your needs as far as remote functionality goes your needs are simple, but that does not mean much. You need to indicate what type of remote you are looking for, a touchscreen remote with limited hard buttons, a touchscreen remote with a good amount of hard buttons, a graphical LCD screen (non-touchscreen), a text only LCD screen (non-touch) or hard button only remote. Second, a good idea of what type of control you will most likely want to have in the future (ability to control lighting, customized theme, curtains, shades, t-stats, etc.). Next, do you want to control your equipment through walls and doors up to 90 feet away? Or do you prefer to just "aim" at the equipment when sending commands (range 30ft line of sight). Last, but optional, it's always good to mention a remote that you were looking at or the type of environment or ergonomic need. (kids, durability, coffee table style, handheld, etc).

Once you provide those details it's a lot easier to start getting you in the right direction to selecting a controller or control system.

Hello Jimmy,

The type of remote I am looking for will have to be handheld, resembling a regular remote, a touch screen is good with a good amount of hard buttons, I can also settle with a graphical lcd(non-touchscreen), I don't mind using just the hard buttons, but I don't want hard button only remote. As far as control functionality for the future, I will not be needing any control besides just my entertainment system and 30ft line of sight would be just fine I think. I was actually looking at the logitec handheld remotes, I also read the Acoustic Research Xsight Touch ARRX18G review, but still need directions and recommendation on the remote which will be good for my needs.

If your budget is under $300, you want a graphical experience or similar, IR only capable and want to program in yourself harmony is pretty much the only way to go...

Hey guys what about the Acoustic Research Xsight Touch ARRX18G, would you consider it worse then the Harmony 900?
