So I am in the market for a new remote. I used to have a Pronto TSU7000 that was destroyed in a house fire.

Currently most of my gear is visible so IR control is the easiest. I do want the ability to do RF

What I am looking for from a remote is to control the theater zone and the lights associated with that in the room. I would also like to possibly be able to control itunes and windows media center from the remote (just a thought)

My options would be to stick with a pronto (sucks that they have shut down the line) or go with a RTI T4 or a IPad with some sort of control using globalcache's

What does everyone think? I still have my original programming for the TSU7000. While it wasn't complete it did do most of the functions that I needed.

If you are looking to program it yourself, then RTI is out. I would go with the iPad if I were you, it may not be as smooth as a T4 professionally programmer, but it will do more for less money. With iRemote you can control you iTunes, and with a device like Redeye you can control the IR devices.

My only advantage with RTI is that I have a friend that works for a distributor and can do the programming for me for free. :)

Don't know if that sways the decision

I have a friend that works at a car dealership, that doesn't make him qualified to rebuild the engine in my truck. Does your friend program RTI on a daily basis as part of his job?

He actually does the programming.

But that's just a side note.

Looks like RTI is out of the picture as the one unit that I was going to get is no longer avaialble (it was a demo that was a really really good price)

so now I'm back to a Pronto or IPAD... ARGH

Looks like the Pronto TSU9600 won. Well I won one on ebay today so that will probably be the route I go.

Guess it's time to break out the editor and start creating the new device.

Look for lots of questions about that to come
