just new this forum and i see i have a lot of reading to do, but i would like to be pointed in the right direction.. any feedback is appreciated..
I like the mx500 so far.. hope it works for me..
not sure bout the harmonys ...
my set up is fairly simple, ive got a sony TV using the cox cable box , sony 5 channel sound set up, and i use two different satelite boxes. a Viewsat Extreme vs 2000 and also have a Coolsat pro 4000 satelite box..

so ive got bout 6 remotes.. i mainly use the viewsat remote control to watch satelite tv and the cable box remote control to watch cable tv
but if i want to do the split screen on the tv i have to use the original sony control that came with the tv.

so i need one that will work the buttons i use the most,
actually all the normal buttons but also these -
input or tv/video button to switch from cable to satelite to dvd..
split screen button
page up and page down
guide and exit button
i use these buttons alot...
favorite channel and previous channel buttons would be cool too...

so heres my list.

TV sony triniton KV-36HS20
The remote control with it is RM-Y183

Sony stereo STR-K502 the remote is RM-U305

i have a GO-Video DVD/VHS player DV3130

Viewsat Extreme VS2000 satelite receiver
and a
Coolsat pro 4000 satelite receiver.

also, next year im gonna get a mitsubishi DLP tv...

so any input is appreciated
thanks
Dan

Yeah, it'll work fine.

If you want to get into macros though, you'll most likely need discretes. That means you'll need a PC programmable one like the MX-700 or MX-850.

A macro is a string of commands executed with the pressing of a single button.

For example, a macro for "Watch TV" could turn on the TV, switch it to the correct input, turn on the satellite receiver, turn on the audio receiver, and switch it to the correct input.

hi Otahd,
ok great thanks,

i dont mind pressing a few buttons when i wanna watch a DVD...
i think ill start off with the basics on the MX 500...

i want to be able to channel surf the cable and satelite easily and use the split screen
so what buttons on the remote will activate INPUT or TV/video/dvd/sat
and split screen function

also the split screen on my sony tv allows you to zoom in or out while in split screen view.. would the center joystick do the zoom in and out?
thanks
dan
