Can anyone please help with a replacement remote for the denon avr 3802 - the manual says the remote is the RC-884. I don't have the remote for this and need to run the set up functions for the amp. I'm not sure whether I can get a denon universal, or alternative or if a Logitec would learn the set up features. I'm not an expert - any help much appreciated.

If the OEM remote is what you want, check here [Link: usa.denon.com]

That being said, by a universal within your budget and have a pro program it. It will be able to control the AVR and rest of your system.

Would it take a pro to program the control? or could I manage it do you think? I want it to pick up the set up features. Thanks Brad

Any after market remote of quality "should" have the codes needed for controlling all main features of the receiver. This is where working with a programming professional is beneficial. A programmer will know the ins and outs of each product and the controls of it.

You might want to try giving Denon UK a ring first.

Good point! Sorry, I assumed that he was in the states. Denon UK probably should have been the first call regardless.

thanks so much guys. I tried Denon UK- they sent me to their parts supplier in York, but they haven't seen the controller for this since 2007....
Sounds like I might need to track this down across the US.

Or you could go with a remote as new as a 3808. The Denon Codes don't change. As long as the features and inputs are the same, so are the commands.

Make life easy, buy an after market universal remote.

Thanks. I will take a look. The 3808 RCU is going for about £100, which seems to much.
So either I get a Harmony, and get a pro to set it up for me, or I invest in another Denon.
Do you know if the AVR 3801 RCU would be compatible? There is one on ebay - think it has the RC-883 with it. Would that work? Thinking it may be almost as cheap to buy an old amp with the RCU and use the amp on another TV
Many thanks for your help

Ok, so if I go for a Harmony learning remote, can I get it set up to do everything the Denon remote would have done? Also, how do I go about finding someone who might help me programme this, or could I manage it myself? Thanks

A Denon remote will be best because the buttons will be labeled with the exact function names, while universals will either have poorly labeled hard buttons or (in my opinion) cumbersome soft labels.

That said, a Harmony will have Denon codes, and if any functions are missing, you can usually get Logitech to add them. Professional help is not necessary.

A very cheap solution is to get nearly any OneForAll remote made in the last 5 years or so (new for less than 20 pounds, and of course less used ). These remotes have Denon codes built in, and additional functions can be added manually. For example, the function System Setup will in most cases be programmed to the Guide button, but if it isn't you can add it by entering 33855 using the "Key Magic" capability of the remotes.

many thanks indeed. sounds like my best bet then is to go for something universal - I'm thinking the Logitech Harmony One looks nice (and try to get a price on it on ebay), then I can get the set-up functions via the code and control everything.
Many thanks - I just did't want to keep spending money and not be able to control the amp set up. I really appreciate all your help,

Try asking on this forum

dedicated to that series of Denon receivers. That's a 2002 model, so I wouldn't spend a lot of money to replace the missing remote.

I think you can explore some pretty inexpensive alternatives to the RC-884, as the remotes seem to be pretty much interchangeable.

If you're already in the market for a universal remote, you might want to go that route instead.
