Bought a Plextor media player 2 years ago and love it dearly but I've broken the remote and Plextor have discontinued the model so I'm stuck. Somebody told me that Logitech remotes can operate plextors so if anyone can confirm that I would be eternally grateful.

Can you tell us the model number? hifi-remote.com list an upgrade for the Plextor PX-MX1000L. It uses the NEC1 IR protocol with device 1. However, the function numbers seem to be unusual.
Logitech may have such a component in their database. Or, if you get any OneForAll, many cable company remotes( e.g. Comcast), some Radio Shack or RCA remotes, I can tell you how to enter in the function codes, which will control the above model. Maybe your model uses the same function numbers.
If you don't have any of the above remotes available, the RCA RCRP05B ($15-$20 at Walgreens and Best Buy) or the OneForAll URC-8820 <$20 at Sears) would work.
What mode of Plextor do you have?

It's the Plextor PX-MPE500U. The Logitech 300i is supposed to be compatible so I'll try that. But don't go anywhere I'll almost certainly need help setting it up!
